Liverpool star Emre Can says Brazil international Roberto Firmino can be decisive for the Premier League club this season. Firmino joined the English club from Hoffenheim last month after breaking into the national team for last year’s Chevrolet Brasil Global Tour clashes against Turkey and Switzerland. The 23-year-old went on to hit four goals in ten appearances for the Selecao, dislodging Diego Tardelli as coach Dunga’s first-choice centre forward, and made his long-awaited Liverpool debut in the English club’s 2-1 victory over Swindon Town on Sunday. “He is a very, very good player – he scores a lot of great goals, and that’s what we need,” Can told the club website. “He plays like a lot of Brazilians – he’s a fighter, and technically very strong and capable, and that can only help win matches for us.” Firmino played 67 minutes of the match after being given extended leave following Brazil’s Copa America campaign which ended in a quarter-final defeat to Paraguay. And he impressed new coach Brendan Rodgers, who revealed he is pleased with the forward’s progress ahead of the new season. “You see his quality. He is really bright on the ball, has got wonderful technique and has got the ability to want to get forward and score a goal,” Rodgers said. “For those players it was just getting them into that game situation, which is never easy as they have only been back a week or so. But they adapted and coped very well.”
